ROAR!

After much anticipation, the only music written for Cloverfield, a 12 minute orchestral piece played during the end credits, has been released on iTunes. It's simply titled, ROAR!.

Written by Michael Giacchino, hearing it brings to mind images of Forbidden Planet, Princess Mononoke, War of the Worlds, B-movie classics, and of course, Japanese Godzilla movies.

Music just isn't written like this anymore.

The Ultimate Machine

Years ago a funny engineer was inspired to make "The Ultimate Machine" using a box he had lying around and some servo motors. Now, thanks to the internet, it has it's own web page, and is gaining such popularity, it is going into production.

Comparisons have been drawn to Douglas Adam's The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy.
Arthur listened for a short while, but being unable to understand the vast majority of what Ford was saying he began to let his mind wander, trailing his fingers along the edge of an incomprehensible computer bank, he reached out and pressed an invitingly large red button on a nearby panel. The panel lit up with the words Please do not press this button again. He shook himself.

A leopard is in the house

With the addition of the first computer with Leopard in the office, I decided to take the plunge and upgrade at home. After finding a good deal on the 5-pack, I spent the weekend backing up and upgrading. My Mac Mini now dual-boots Tiger and Leopard, and I did a fresh install on my Macbook.

While it's definitely an incremental change, I like it a lot. My favorite features?
  • It's a little faster.
  • Built in Front-Row (even for my old remote-less mac-mini. No more hacks required).
  • A mind-bending PhotoMosaic screen saver.
  • Incredibly fast network browsing.
  • A hotkey to sleep the display instantly.
  • The ability to run the very cool Fluid.
  • Built-in VNC viewing (part of "back to my Mac")
  • FileVault is MUCH faster [UPDATE]
I've only had it running for a few hours, so I'm sure I'll find more cool stuff.
